The Auxiliary of Brooks Memorial Hosptial
The Auxiliary of Brooks Memorial Hospital is a volunteer organization dedicated to raising money for Brooks and making people’s hospital stays more comfortable. The Auxiliary’s primary purpose is to assist the hospital by providing funding for equipment and patient comfort programs. Funds are raised through the Auxiliary's lobby sales, annual dinner dance and other special events.

BMH Hospital Auxiliary Donations to ER & ICU
The Brooks Memorial Hospital Auxiliary recently donated funds to purchase items for the Emergency Room, Education and Intensive Care Units at Brooks. Generous donations from the Auxiliary purchased two new fiberoptic laryngoscopes for the Emergency Department, a Blanket Warmer for the Intensive Care Unit and an Infant Intravenous assess mannequin for the Education Department.
Commenting on the new laryngoscopes in the Emergency Department, ER Nurse Manager Michael Trippi was very pleased with the donation. “The laryngoscopes will assist the physicians with patient intubation and give them a clearer view when performing this emergency procedure. The staff is very appreciative of the Auxiliary’s donation which helps Brooks to have the most up to date equipment and provide superior quality care to our patients.”
Staff in the Intensive Care Unit were also very pleased with the Blanket Warmer they received from the Auxiliary. “Our patients really appreciate the extra bit of comfort that a warmed blanket brings, especially in the Intensive Care Unit” commented ICU RN Bobbie Moldenhauer. “People expect the ICU to provide advanced, state-of-the-art critical care, and we do, but something as simple as a snuggly warm blanket really helps too.”
In addition the Education Department received an infant intravenous access mannequin, designed to help nurse’s perfect starting IV’s and drawing blood on babies. This miniature mannequin simulates a newborn’s anatomy and allows nurses to practice many specialized skills associated with caring for infants.
BMH Auxiliary Makes Donation to Obstetrics Department
The Brooks Memorial Hospital Auxiliary has donated $1,500 to Brooks Memorial Hospital to purchase a bassinet for the nursery.
The bassinet was a much needed new piece of equipment due to the increase in volume births over the past year at Brooks. “The bassinet will assist nursery staff members in transporting newborns from nursery to mother’s room, said Roselle Atzrott, R.N., Nurse Manager of the Obstetrics Department.” “Our department appreciates all the hard work that the Auxiliary has done to make this donation possible.”
BMH Auxiliary Donates Equipment to Hospital Laboratory
The Brooks Memorial Hospital Auxiliary recently donated $4172 to the hospital’s Laboratory Department to purchase a new phlebotomy chair, shelving and a cytofuge machine.
The cytofuge machine concentrates cells from body fluids onto microscope slides with a level of cell recovery, clarity and detail that cannot be achieved with direct smear techniques.“The cytofuge machine will assist lab personnel with expertise and efficiency during the testing process and getting the end result.” said Carroll Baker, BMH Laboratory Supervisor. “We appreciate the Auxiliary’s donation very much. Financial assistance from the Auxiliary helps us to purchase the equipment we need for the most up-to-date testing.” The new phlebotomy chair and shelving are also much needed equipment to help serve the community.
BMH Surgical Services Receives Auxiliary Donation
The Brooks Memorial Hospital Auxiliary has donated over $16,000 to the hospital’s Surgical Services Department to purchase a transport cart, arthroscope and SaO2 datascope monitor.
“We appreciate the Auxiliary’s donation very much.” “The transport cart will help assist patients to and from surgery in comfort, and has a 700lb weight limit. “This will put less physical strain on the hospital’s personnel. The SaO2 datascope monitor will help the nursing staff monitor patient’s vital signs and oxygen levels in their blood more efficiently in the recovery room” said Sallie Piazza, RN, Surgical Manager. “The arthroscope is state of the art equipment that will provide better care to our patients, who require knee surgery.” |
