Brooks Memorial Hospital Medical Laboratory Receives Joint Commission Accreditation

Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, NY recently achieved the Gold Seal of Approval for health care quality - Medical Laboratory accreditation from the Joint Commission. Surveyors from the Joint Commission were at the Dunkirk hospital in early March performing an in-depth survey using tracer methodology. Tracer methodology is a process used to analyze an organization’s systems that follows patients through healthcare processes in the sequence in which patients experience them, with particular attention paid to priority focus areas.

“The new Joint Commission survey process focuses on total patient care and safety," says Brooks Memorial Hospital Lab Manager Gerald D’Amaro, M.T. (ASCP). "Because of the tracer methodology, the surveyor was able to look at the complete picture of quality patient care here at Brooks, and this accreditation means we have demonstrated compliance with national standards for patient safety and quality of care.

The two-year Joint Commission accreditation for the Brooks Memorial Hospital Medical Laboratory will be in effect until March 2009.
