Over 50 participants from volunteer fire companies, Sherriff's office, County fire and police personnel, and healthcare providers attended the training at East Dunkirk Fire Station. Representatives from Mercy Flight and Starflight were also present.
Naloxone, also known by the Trade name Narcan, can be administered through a simple nasal spray. Through Narcan training seminars, first responders and community members can learn how and when to administer the lifesaving antidote that can reverse the fatal effects of an Opioid overdose and save a person’s life. All trainees received a Narcan kit, free, at the end of the training.
Dr. Joshua Lynch is a locally renowned Opioid Epidemic Advocate, and Emergency Physician and firefighter/EMT/SCUBA rescue technician. He is currently affiliated with UB|MD Emergency Medicine, Mercy Flight of Western NY, and United Memorial Medical Center.
