The month October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is perfect a time to recognize patients like Shelley Hopkins, a working mom from Fredonia, NY, for her courage in making the right choice. To help preserve her health and continue performing her most important role - as wife and mother of 2 young girls - Shelley recently underwent her very first mammogram.
Although nervous at first, Shelly recalls how the staff at Brooks put her at ease. “From start to finish, the entire staff at Brooks, particularly Jill Zentz, took extra care with me knowing this was my first mammogram. After my test, they handed me a flower. I no longer have any reservations when it comes to having future testing done”.
According to the American Cancer Society, women ages 40 to 45 should start considering yearly examinations, and women with a high risk of breast cancer (20-25% chance or greater) should receive an additional MRI every year.
Brooks outpatient Mammography clinic is open M-F from 8am - 4pm. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call (716) 363-3933.
