“They’re the heart of the hospital,” beamed Sophia Clayton-Arana, RN, Director of Surgical Services, as she described the upbeat Central Sterile Processing team. “Because of them, everything within our surgical operation runs smoothly.” She often speaks highly of this skilled department, but today in particular, Sophia boasts recent accomplishments of three team members who received the coveted Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (C.S.P.D.T.) credential. Penny Schneider-Smith, Raul (EJ) Rosado and Tina McCroskey participated recently in a rigorous five-week training course which culminated in a certification exam for the international credential. C.S.P.D.T. is one of two standard certifications now required for those entering the profession of healthcare sterile processing and distribution. The other equally challenging standard, C.R.C.S.T., is held by several members of Brooks’ CSP team | Training funds were made available through the generosity of the employees’ SEIU 1199 membership benefits. |
In combination with on-the-job training, the demanding coursework and exam encourage the competency of personnel performing cleaning, high level disinfection, preparation and assembly, sterilization and distribution of surgical instruments, flexible endoscopes and other devices to promote patient safety.
Congratulations Penny, EJ and Tina. And thank you for your demonstrated commitment to providing quality health care services to our community.
