New Physician Joins Lake Erie Medical Medical Services
Compassionate, Experienced -
With a Focus on Quality and Accessibility

He’s as delightful as his photo suggests. A kind face, a soft spoken demeanor…and caring. One can tell right away that Dr. Pujan Shrestha is caring. After a long-awaited arrival, Lake Erie Medical Services (LEMS), in association with Brooks Memorial Hospital, welcomes the newest OB/GYN physician to the practice. Heading up the newest LEMS location at 419 Central Avenue in Dunkirk, Dr. Shrestha is the perfect fit to provide OB/GYN services to our community.
Pujan Shrestha, MD, received his medical degree from Kathmandu University in 2007. After gaining valuable experience working with underserved population in rural Nepal, he completed residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at SUNY Upstate Medical University.
Shrestha was born and raised in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal surrounded by the highest mountains in the world, including Mount Everest. He states, “I come from a family of doctors and my father is an OB/GYN as well. Medicine has always been deeply ingrained in me. My father has played a huge part in me going into medicine. My foundational experience working in rural Nepal provided me with an insight to the need within the OB/GYN field and how much of a difference I could make.”
When asked why he chose Northern Chautauqua County to begin the next chapter of his career, it became clear that both his life experience and personality make him an excellent match for our lakeside community. Dr. Shrestha loves the lake and is an avid windsurfer.
As for why he chose to join LEMS and Brooks Memorial Hospital in particular, Shrestha stated that the organization is receptive to new ideas with a focus on quality. The people here have been really nice, too.” Having completed his residency in New York State, Shrestha also already has friends in this area.
During his time working in rural Nepal, Dr. Shrestha learned life lessons that he carries with him today. “People in rural Nepal walked for days to get access to healthcare. The community was poor and there were no resources. Seeing this helped me realize the critical importance of access to quality healthcare, especially for women.”
Dr. Shrestha is a proud recipient of The Gold Humanism Honor Society Award for clinical excellence and compassion in patient care twice; first in 2011 and recently in 2014. He is currently an active candidate for American Boards of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Shrestha will begin seeing patients at LEMS, located at 268 W Main Street in
Fredonia immediately. The newest LEMS location, at 419 Central Avenue in Dunkirk is slated to open the week of January 19th. A FREE open house family event is scheduled for Saturday, January 31st from 9 to 11am at 419 Central Avenue in Dunkirk. Breakfast and children’s activities will be provided at no cost.
