For 32 years, Rotary Clubs in our area have hosted an annual blood screening event with clinical support provided by Brooks Hospital laboratory. This year, however, TLC Health Network, Kaleida Health and the Jamestown Community College Nursing program joined efforts to help community members build a more thorough snapshot of their current state of health.
In addition to receiving comprehensive blood testing, close to 200 participants at the September 17th fundraising event had the opportunity to undergo a multi-disciplined health and wellness screening. Blood pressure checks, balance tests, stroke education, and smoking cessation tools were presented as simple yet powerful strategies to help community members proactively take charge of their current and future health.
Sarah Michalak of Dunkirk, an event participant for the past 10 years, won a grand prize drawing for a FitBit wireless fitness tracker.
Proceeds from the annual fundraiser are used to provide Rotary-sponsored community health programs such as free child immunization clinics, and other civic projects such as the beautification of Russell Joy Park in Fredonia and the construction of the Skateboard Park in Dunkirk.
This year’s event, held at Fredonia High School, was co-sponsored through the generosity of Kaleida Health and Tim Horton’s.
